Hi Schnitzelwecken

Thank you for your help to make FreeRainbowTables.com known to the public. I really appreciate it.

Thanks - was great fun. There were also ideas (you know who you are) like "infilitrate a botnet, use the bots to install BOINC on each infected system" :).

That's a fun joke but if a serious idea then I certainly veto. Something like that is a sure way to really kill the project.

That comes up about every time (sigh) I talk to someone about freerainbowtables.com and/or BOINC. Either a distributed bruteforcer or botrtgen. Anyway, I usually tell folks that it'd be infeasible to hide BOINC in a reliable way and the development time to create a sneaky BOINC server would better be spend elsewhere. However, most really want tables from a clean source, so I don't think there is any real interest there.

Well I don't see why you couldn't take over a bot net tell all clients to uninstall the bot. Then ask if they want to help FRT since we helped them make their computer safer. Then just install Boinc and setup an account for FRT and tell them you can uninstall any time you want. Most people don't even read messages that pop up so we'd get some of them if it's a yes/no question. I think most people just click no. So "do you want to stop the instillation of Boinc to help out FRT?" That's only boarder line shady because we're upfront with the users. Anyway I'd go with not doing this, but if you're board you can still take out bot nets for fun.
